Jacqueline Candella is an Associate at Malecki Law in New York, New York. Jacqueline received her Juris Doctor from New York Law School and undergraduate degree in Finance from Pace University, NYC. Before coming to law school, Jacqueline worked as a Client Associate in Wealth Management at Merrill Lynch – Bank of America doing research and 401(k) retirement education sessions, as well as supported account management for high-net-worth clients, including working on risk assessments and financial analysis for client accounts.
Jacqueline also had the opportunity to work as an Enforcement Extern at the New York Office of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). In that role, she investigated FINRA member firms in order to determine whether the firms and/or associated persons violated federal securities laws, FINRA rules, NASD rules, or MSRB rules. She conducted research and drafting in support of a wide range of legal issues for Enforcement Attorneys, including market manipulation and interpretation of relevant securities laws. She also reviewed document productions in various matters including Form U4/U5 issues and attended respondent interviews related to potential document forgery.
Jacqueline is also a member on the Marketing and Communications Committee for the National Association of Women Lawyers and a member of the Public Investors Advocates Bar Association (PIABA). During her time at New York Law School, Jacqueline served as Treasurer and Co-President of the Legal Association for Women. The student organization works towards gender equality for women in the legal profession.
Jacqueline served as the Wagner Chair for the Moot Court Association (MCA). Jacqueline and her Co-Chair planned and facilitated one of the largest student-run moot court competitions in the nation, the Robert F. Wagner National Labor and Employment Moot Court Competition. As a member of the MCA, she coached a team in the National Appellate Advocacy Competition, and competed in multiple competitions, including the National Telecommunications and Technology Moot Court Competition in Washington, D.C.
Jacqueline was an affiliate of the Center for Business and Financial Law, concentrating in business and financial law, including study in Accounting and Financial Reporting, Commercial Law, Corporations, Derivatives Market Regulation, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Securities Regulation.
Having an opportunity to participate in the Securities Arbitration Field Placement, Jacqueline worked on a wide range of issues including suitability claims. As part of both the externship and an internship, she has done significant work on customer arbitrations and mediations, including work on pleadings, discovery and profit & loss analyses.
A great writer, Jacqueline has written summaries on SEC Settlement Agreements and SEC Litigation for Thomson Reuters’ publication Practical Law – What’s Market, including claims related to fraud, market manipulation, anti-money laundering, and reporting and disclosure issues. Jacqueline has also written twenty articles on Legislative and regulatory events that impact the securities and commodities market for Fried Frank Regulatory Intelligence (FFRI), formerly known as the Cadwalader Cabinet. The FFRI articles touched on a wide range of topics including SEC rule proposals, trade and financial sanctions, regulation of private fund advisers, and consumer protection efforts.
Outside of education and work, Jacqueline is dedicated to the fight against drunk driving. She has been a longstanding volunteer for the non-profit Mothers Against Drunk Driving and serves as Walk Chair to the Staten Island Walk Like MADD.
